| Customer Reviews: I love it!! December 13, 2009 P. Sopko (DC) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have found it to be very well built and so far no problems. I currently use it at a sculpture studio where I weld at. So, I'm not a full-time, professional welder, who uses it every day, all-day. But, I have been cutting through 1/4" steel no problem for a project of mine. It's cutting speed compared to a 12" or 14" abrasive saw is many times faster. Compared to a Miller Spectrum 375 it is also much much faster which is the reason why I bought it. The steel I am cutting is 11" in width max and this cuts up to 11-3/4" (IIRC) so it really fits the bill.
It has a laser sight which so far seems to be fairly accurate. The sliding action if fairly smooth and the rails are about an inch in diameter. The miter adjustment is the squeeze grip type with a tension knob. The beveling action, which I have not had a chance to use yet, could be a tad better. If you needed to specifically use a saw for miter cuts then another one that has a better adjusting mechanism might be preferred. With this saw you have a lever that you release tension and then you rotate the armature. It works well but I'd be nice if it was as robust as the miter adjustment mechanism. However, it is a solid lock on your angle so it does work as intended.
As far as blade longevity I do not know. If you were to line up my material end-to-end I have probably cut through 40'-50' of 1/4" steel. The cutting speed is now slowing down to that of a 14" abrasive saw and I am still on the packaged blade but your mileage may vary. Rage also has another blade specifically for steel, the 10BLADEST. I will try that next since most of the work I do is in steel.
simply amazing April 4, 2009 Ralph Ruland (GREENVILLE,NY,USA) Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this
would ever be on the market!!!! This is wonderfull. The first
peice I cut was a 4 x 6 x 3/8 angle iron no problem.
ALL I CAN SAY IS EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!
Steel cutting saw January 10, 2009 T-Man (Texas) Evolution Power Tools #RAGE3 10" MP Miter Saw
Have only used the saw for one project, about 30 cuts. It cuts 1/8" x 1 1/4" angle iron no problem using the general purpose blade that came with the saw. Smooth cuts, accurate miters. Blade was 90 degrees to table straight out of box and it cut accurate 45 degree miters. It does throw a lot of chips/shavings every where (less than an abrasive saw). Laser could be brighter. Becasue it is a sliding miter saw it takes up alot of space front to back. I wish it took the more common 10" 5/8" arbor blades instead of 1" arbor blades (must use Evolution blades). Only came with one hold down, two would be better. A few more sparks when cutting than I expected. But over all a very good saw for the serious home hobbyist.
